The Marine Corps was formed on November 10, 1775 when the Continental Congress ordered two battalions of Marines to be recruited to serve as landing forces with the fleet. The Marines have participated in every war in the United States and were, for the most part, the first or among the first to fight. In addition, the Marines have made more than 300 landings on foreign shores and have participated in all of Major U.S. Marine's operations since 1775.
The Navy Force Fleet (FMFPAC) and the Atlantic Marine Force Fleet (FMFLANT); a support facility for the recruitment, training, supply logistics, and maintenance of bases, facilities, and schools; and the Marine Corps Reservation. The United States Marine Corps is organized in accordance with the National Security Act of 1947 and its amendments of 1952. The corps commander has the same rights as the members of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in all matters of the corps.
The emblem of the Marine Corps is the Western Hemisphere, perched on a disgusting anchor and surmounted by an outstretched eagle. The forest green service uniform was introduced in 1912.
